CVA encourages all archers in California to join the California Bowmen Hunters and State Archery Association (CBH/SAA).
CBH/SAA is the parent organization of the Conejo Valley Archers, and is also the official voice of archery and bowhunting in California. CBH/SAA maintains three branches of archery support: Tournament/Field Archery, Legislative Issues, and Bowhunting.
The Tournament/Field Archery portion of CBH/SAA is responsible for writing and supporting the various archery rules as well as hosting our state tournaments. Currently, these tournaments are the CBH/SAA State Field, the CBH/SAA State Indoor, and the CBH/SAA State Target Tournaments. An annual meeting is held each January to discuss and/or initiate rules changes and additions. The California Archery Foundation and the Hall of Fame are just two of the programs under the guidance of CBH/SAA.
CBH/SAA has a Legislative Team consisting of members throughout the six regions of our state. They are led by an appointed Legislative Coordinator (currently J. Rod McGinnis). The Legislative Team works to defeat anti-archery and anti-bowhunting laws as well as to initiate, expand, and support bowhunting programs with the California Department of Fish and Game. The new Archery Elk tags for 2002 came as a direct result of 16 years of work by the various teams and many of the new youth hunts were first brought about through their efforts.
The bowhunting portion of CBH/SAA is managed by the 2nd VP Hunting (currently CVA club member Craig Fritz) and includes the Big Game Club and the Small Game Program under the guidance of the Small Game Coordinator (currently Burt Malech). Members are invited to enter their bowhunting trophies in the records program, participate in the annual CBH/SAA State Broadhead Championship on Memorial Day Weekend, and/or one of the small game jamborees (Tilapia, Carp, Grouse, and Ocean Fishing).
Membership in CBH/SAA is $25.00 per year for single members and $35.00 per year for families. Card-carrying members are given a discount at most open 3-D shoots and tournaments and receive a monthly newsletter packed with information about archery in California as well as a full calendar and information about shoots throughout the state.
For a limited time only, the CBH/SAA Big Game Club is sponsoring a new member program. If you have never been a member of CBH/SAA then you are invited to join your first year for the small fee of $10.00 ($15.00 for families). This will be like a free membership if you join and only shoot TWO tournaments offering membership discounts in the next twelve months!!!
